This training session forms part of the NISHATI seminar on Sustainability Strategies, focusing on the role of photovoltaic (PV) systems in supporting energy self-consumption within public buildings and university campuses. The presentation explores how renewable energy solutions can be effectively designed and integrated to improve energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and support institutional sustainability goals.

The session provides practical insights into grid-connected photovoltaic systems, highlighting design considerations, performance optimization, and the strategic value of solar energy for higher education institutions. Participants are guided through real-world applications relevant to campuses and public infrastructure, making the session particularly valuable for academic staff, engineers, planners, and sustainability practitioners.

Dr. Rafael Jiménez Castañeda is a distinguished engineer and academic with a PhD from the University of Cádiz, where he authored a doctoral thesis on the optimal design and energy efficiency of grid-connected photovoltaic plants. He has been a full-time professor at the University of Cádiz since 1986, specializing in electrical engineering, renewable energy systems, and industrial electricity.

Dr. Jiménez Castañeda brings extensive expertise in industrial organization, technical electricity, and photovoltaic energy systems. In addition to his academic career, he serves as an R&D advisor for several university spin-off companies, contributing to applied research and innovation in renewable energy technologies.

This training contributes to NISHATI’s broader objective of strengthening academic capacity, promoting green energy solutions, and supporting the transition toward sustainable and climate-resilient higher education systems.
